Elimination of fats, oils, and grease (FOG) in Wastewater Systems

Understanding FOG in Wastewater

FOG, short for Fats, Oils, and Grease, is a significant concern in wastewater management. These substances, commonly found in industrial and residential waste streams, pose unique challenges to treatment systems.

What is FOG?

FOG refers to organic compounds that are insoluble in water. These include animal fats, vegetable oils, and various greases from food processing and cooking. FOG can solidify and accumulate when released into wastewater systems, leading to serious operational issues.

The Impact of FOG on Wastewater Systems

The presence of FOG in wastewater can have detrimental effects. It can clog pipes, reduce flow capacity, and create blockages that lead to overflows. FOG accumulation also provides a breeding ground for harmful bacteria, compromising the efficiency of treatment processes and potentially leading to environmental hazards.

Introducing AXCELL+

AXCELL+ is an innovative solution designed to combat the challenges posed by FOG in wastewater systems. This cutting-edge product offers a biological approach to FOG management, setting it apart from traditional chemical treatments.

What is AXCELL+?

AXCELL+ is a specialized biological treatment product formulated to target and eliminate FOG in wastewater. It Contains the presence of an alkaloid which promotes accelerated biological processes that work synergistically to efficiently break down fats, oils, and grease.

How AXCELL+ Works

AXCELL+ functions by dramatically enhancing the natural biological processes already present in wastewater. When introduced to the system, it stimulates the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria that specialize in degrading FOG. These supercharged microorganisms rapidly consume the problematic compounds, converting them into harmless byproducts.

The Power of Accelerated Biological Activity

AXCELL+'s core strength lies in its ability to speed up natural biological processes, resulting in faster and more effective FOG elimination.

The Science Behind AXCELL+

AXCELL+ leverages advanced biotechnology to create an optimal environment for specific bacterial strains. These carefully selected microorganisms can produce enzymes that break down complex FOG molecules. AXCELL+ ensures these bacteria thrive and work efficiently by providing ideal conditions and nutrients.

Benefits of Enhanced Biological Processes

Accelerated biological activity offers numerous advantages over traditional FOG treatment methods. It's more environmentally friendly, reducing the need for harsh chemicals. The process is also self-sustaining, as the bacterial population continues to grow and adapt to the specific FOG composition in the wastewater, providing ongoing treatment.

AXCELL+ in Action: FOG Elimination

The practical application of AXCELL+ demonstrates its effectiveness in real-world wastewater treatment scenarios.

The FOG Removal Process

When AXCELL+ is introduced to a wastewater system, it immediately begins to work. The product's microorganisms quickly colonize FOG deposits, breaking them down into water, carbon dioxide, and other harmless compounds. This process eliminates existing FOG and prevents new accumulations from forming.

Case Studies and Results

Numerous wastewater treatment facilities have reported significant improvements after implementing AXCELL+. Many have seen FOG levels reduce by up to 90% within weeks of treatment, improving system efficiency and reducing maintenance needs.

Advantages of Using AXCELL+

The benefits of AXCELL+ extend beyond just FOG removal, offering comprehensive improvements to wastewater treatment processes.

Environmental Benefits

AXCELL+ provides an eco-friendly alternative to chemical treatments. Using natural biological processes reduces the environmental impact of wastewater treatment and helps facilities meet stringent discharge regulations.

Cost-Effectiveness

While the initial investment in AXCELL+ may be higher than some traditional treatments, the long-term savings are substantial. Reduced maintenance, fewer pipe blockages, and extended equipment lifespan all contribute to significant cost reductions over time.

Long-term System Health

Regular use of AXCELL+ promotes overall system health. Consistently removing FOG and other organic compounds prevents harmful substances from building up, maintains optimal flow rates, and ensures the longevity of wastewater treatment infrastructure.

Implementing AXCELL+ in Your Wastewater Treatment

Integrating AXCELL+ into existing wastewater treatment systems is straightforward. Our team of experts can provide a customized implementation plan based on your specific needs and system characteristics. With proper application, AXCELL+ can deliver results within days, leading to cleaner water, more efficient operations, and a healthier environment.

GOG Review:

Lakepointe Environmental has always performed their contracts well beyond expectations. The benefits we received included a 45-50% reduction in fats, oils and grease (FOG), at the headworks of the facility where the product was used in the tributary systems. Those reductions were realized in the trial, we did have higher reductions when we expanded treatment, in addition, the "soft costs" can only be estimated, but they included a reduction in blockages and Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO's), unscheduled overtime and fewer customer complaints. The target for our division was 10 or fewer SSO's per year. I am happy to say we hit that target.

The system I was responsible for, and I say "was", as I retired in 2017, serves a population of 48,000 people with 21,000 paying customers. The dosing was for was for a single facility, our Osprey Water Reclamation Facility, with an average daily flow of ~ 2 million gallons per day. The product was applied from approximately 10 lift stations the greatest distance from the Osprey Facility, to maximize the retention time in the system. The last cost-benefit analysis I performed indicated an approximate return of 25% on the cost of the contract. We were very pleased with that. I should also mention, the only responsibility we had for dosing the product was storing it. The Lakepointe contract was turnkey and they had personnel that operated and maintained the dosing equipment. We provided a 120VAC receptacle for powering the small pump needed.

I hope this has been helpful and answered your questions. If you have any other questions, 0please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck with your project!
